For my Action Research Plan I'm working with girls in engineering. Girls face significant challenges to make progress along the STEM pipeline, so I'm partnering with Judy Cezeau from Western New England College to connect women engineering students with middle school girls. We're creating a six-session after-school all-girls engineering club. We acquired a grant from the National Girls Collaborative Project to purchase equipment so the girls can build underwater remote-controlled robots. Each session will include a hands-on building and engineering block, a discussion focused on the realities of what girls face along the STEM pipeline, and a small group mentoring time with the WNEC students. Jan Kibbe (also in TWINF) will use the robots for her Technology/Engineering class with sixth grade students here at STEM Middle Academy.

We're in the planning stage now and we'll begin with the students on Monday March 1. We'll hold club sessions on March 1, 8, 22, 29, April 12, and 26.

None of the NSTA probes fit exactly with what we're going after, so I wrote this one. If anyone has any feedback, I'd love to hear it. It's based largely on the Boston Museum of Science efforts.
